Antiviral, antimicrobial technology* backed by science

Ascend Performance Materials has partnered with independent labs to test a patent-pending technology for fabrics, nonwoven media and engineered plastics that shows demonstrated efficacy against microbes.

Ascend has submitted an FDA 510(k) and EUA applications with the EPA for clearance to market the technology.

Independent laboratories have tested the technology for efficacy against common viral, bacterial and fungal strains.*

Microbe Efficacy Test standard
H1N1 99.9%** Modified ISO 18184 / ASTM E2197
Staphylococcus aureus 99.999%*** ISO 20743
Klebsiella pneumoniae 99.999%*** ISO 20743
E. coli 99.999%*** ASTM E3160
Aspergillus brasiliensis, Penicillium funiculosum, Chaetomium globosum, Trichoderma virens, Aureobasidium pullulans No growth ASTM G21

how it works

Active zinc ions are embedded in the polymer matrix.

The active zinc ions deactivate viruses by attacking the polar end groups and blocking the glycoprotein channels, breaking apart the protective virus wall and rendering viruses ineffective.

Bacteria, on the other hand, are living creatures — and they need minerals such as manganese to survive. When bacteria make contact with with the product, the active zinc ions block cellular pathways used to process that essential nutrient. Without it, the bacteria “starve” and do not grow.
